EAW Polikarpov I-16 type 10 "Super Mosca"

This model represents one of batch of 62 I-16 type 10 aircraft sent to Spain in August 1938, and was probably part of 7a Escuadrilla de Moscas in the autumn of 1938. The 7th Escuadrilla had a mixture of Republican pilots, both Spanish and foreign volunteers, as the last of the Russian pilots had been sent home by November 1938.

The I-16 type 10 was dubbed the Super-Mosca (fly) by the Republicans and Rata (rat) by the Nationalists. The Super-Moscas were an improved Type 5 with the enclosed cockpit deleted, some structural strength improvements, a more powerful engine and an additional 2 machine guns added over the cowling which necessitated two bump fairings to be added to the cowling.

I developed this new model of the I-16 at Steve Day's urging, and in partnership with him. I developed the new 3DZ starting with Charles Gunst's original I-16 model. (I still can't fathom how Charles did it without anything but a hex editor) Steve Day is the author of this fantastic skin.

In addition to the Type 5 already issued and the Type 10 here, there will also be Type 24 versions. There will be Spanish Civil War as well as Russian VVS skins - so you can fly one of these versions in either Spain or in Russia WWII.

Use with Charles' ECAPanel in the Hurricane slot.

My thanks to Steve Day for the excellent art work, Charles for the original basis 3DZ and ECAP flight model, and Alessandro Borges for his 3dz engineering tools.

Cheers,

Captain Kurt
